The Genises is exciting with Quality/Price/Good Looks - but the Equus is even more exciting with Better Looks.
Hyundai (like Sun-day, you pronounce it Hun-day) is changing the auto biz in my opinion for the better. Before to get an auto of this type you had to go to Cadillac, Mercedes, BMW and later Lexus, all at more money than Hyundai is charging.
I have driven the Genises Sedan and Coupe - they are excellent!
I feel that I will be moving out of my Mercedes and into this new Hyundai Equus.
제네시스는 품질, 가격, 외모 모두에서 짱인데 에쿠스는 그거 보다도 더 잘생기고 레알 짱이다. 현대("선데이"처럼 "헌대이"라고 읽는다) 때문에 내가 차를 살 때 더 고민하게 됐다. 이전에는 캐딜락이나 벤츠, BMW, 혹은 렉서스를 에쿠스보다 더 비싸게 사야만 했었다. 나는 제네시스와 젠쿱을 몰고 다녔었는데, 둘 다 좋았다! 나 아마도 지금 타는 벤츠에서 에쿠스로 옮기지 않을까 싶다.

얼굴 완전 혼란스럽다. 완전 렉서스랑 뷰익 닮았다. 발렛파킹 알바가 과연 이 차의 전면이 보이도록 주차를 할까? 그럴리 없다!

In terms of styling the Genesis and Equus come off as rather generic in my opinion. The vehicles themselves have a great platform to work with and the value per dollar ratio is certainly excellent though. While the price is cheaper than its competitors, there are some parts of the interior (i.e. the plastic aluminum trim) that cheapen an otherwise rich looking design. I think if Hyundai did those few extra tweaks, they'd have a great addition to their luxury lineup.
스타일 측면에서 제네시스와 에쿠스는 패밀리룩 같다. 그 차종들은 플랫폼도 좋고 가격 대비 가치도 완전 좋다. 경쟁자들 보다는 싸지만, 플라스틱 알루미늄 트림과 같은 인테리어가 고급스런 디자인을 싸구려로 망친다. 현대가 조금만 더 손봤으면 럭셔리 라인업에 들 수 있을 것 같다.

They should worry less about the interior and worry more about making the exterior look less like a 2011 ZIL. The Genesis is contemporary and attractive. This is retro and horrid.
이것들은 인테리어보다 일단 익스테리어가 문제야. 꼭 2011년형 구 소련제 요인용 고급차같네. 제네시스는 현대적이고 매력적인데 이건 옛날차 같고 표정이 썩었음.

only thing I don't like is the buick swoopy back-end styling. other than that, it's a nice car. And if you can undercut an LS Lexus by $20,000....look out.
Hyundai has done an incredible job over the last few years.
The genesis is a really nice car and the new 2011 sonata is another home run and a great looking car.
Lexus and Toyota better start worring and get back to the drawing board. Hyundai is on the move and starting to mnake them look bad....really bad.
하나 맘에 안드는게 뷰익 닮은 뒷모습이다. 그거 말곤 좋다. 그리고 이게 혹시 렉서스 LS를 2만달러에 팔게 할지도 모른다. (싸고 좋아 렉서스가 가격 내린단 말) 현대가 요즘 몇년 사이 잘하고 있다. 제네시스는 진짜 좋은 차고 쏘나타 역시 그만큼 참 좋다. 렉서스와 도요타가 이제 좀 걱정을 하고 개발에 신경을 써야할 거 같다. 현대가 요즘 잘하고 있고 그에 비해 도요타는 참 못나보인다.

This not likely to be a volume seller but a solid effort. I am a brand snob but would have no qualms driving this to my golf course. Am no longer a fan of Toyota/Lexus personally.
If money was no obejct, the S-Class is still the creme of the crop imo..
이게 가장 잘 팔리는 모델은 되지 않겠지만 나쁘진 않은 결과가 나올 거 같다. 나는 브랜드에 신경을 많이 쓰지만 내가 골프치러 갈 때 쓰기엔 나쁘지 않은 거 같다. 난 개인적으로 더 이상 도요타/렉서스 팬이 아니다. 근데 사실 돈만 아니면 S-Class 산다.

hyundai just looks like they are trying too hard with this one. they seem to be just copying ideas from other luxury car makers. hood ornament= rolls royce flying lady, vs460= lexus ls460, center control=bmw i-drive, then the front end and tailpipes are definatly from the lexus ls. they need to try and be more imaginative in order to get into the luxury market.
현대가 좀 오바한 거 같다. 완전 다른 고급차 짜집기다. 후드 엠블럼=롤스로이스꺼, VS460=렉서스 LS460, 중앙 컨트롤 시스템=BMW i-drive, 그리고 앞하고 뒤는 완전 LS 짝퉁이다. 현대가 제대로 럭셔리해지려면 상상력이 더 필요하다.

I saw this car driving through upstate NY on March 21st 2010. Must have been some kind of promo, because it had california plates and was being followed by a couple of Lexus tanks.
No joke, it looked amazing. Totally upstaged the lexus.
나 이 차 3월 21일에 뉴욕에서 돌아다니는 거 봤음. 캘리포니아 번호판에 다른 렉서스 기함이 따라다니는 거로 봐서 아마 테스트카였을듯

Most ironically--I was at the Hyundai dealer today. My lease on my Lexus 460 expires on 3/7. I have just retired and wish to reduce my car expenditure but not my luxury. I drove the eight cylinder Genesis and other than a harder ride-- to be expected--I was very impressed. Unfortunately the sales person brought up the Equus--and now I am totally confused. I have just spent the last hour revisiting the web info on their latest entry into the luxury market. I wish they had more formal pricing at this time--as I might try to extend my lease on the Lexus until th Equus is available--anyone have any thoughts?--I could afford $50K but that is just the bottom potential price for the Equus. I am sure that I can get the Genesis for under $40k--any thoughts on what I should do?
I have always hated buying any car where the next year the same company comes out with somethin better.
아이러니하게도 난 오늘 현대 매장에 있었다. 내 LS460 리스가 3월 7일 만기인데, 내가 얼마전에 은퇴를 해서 차에 대한 소비를 줄이고 싶지만 아직도 된장남으로 살고 싶다. 나는 V8 제네시스도 타 봤는데, 막 달리지 않는 이상 다들 알다시피 꽤나 감명깊은 차종이다. 불행히도 그 딜러가 에쿠스를 보여줬고, 난 좀 혼란스럽다. 얼마 전에 럭셔리 시장에 진입하는 차들에 대해 검색해봤다. 근데 에쿠스가 좀만 더 쌌으면 좋겠다. 에쿠스 살 수 있을 때까지 렉서스 리스 연장해서 타고 다녀야 하나...? 내가 5만달러까진 쓸 수 있지만 이건 에쿠스 깡통 가격이고, 제네시스는 4만달러로 뽕도 뽑고 남을 거 같은데 어쩔까?

if i had 60k to spend on a car, of course i would consider the equus since i most likely will get more car/value for my money, compared to similarly priced vehicles...thats the practical route, which hyundai is all about...
but once you start comparing it to the lexus ls or mb-s, it becomes a different story...those who can afford a lexus or mb will buy a lexus or mb...its unlikely that these types of buyers would be considering a "cheaper" alternative...
hyundai makes use of available technology, current styling, and great marketing to push its brand aggressively...something american brands have yet to realize...sad...
내가 6만 달러만 있었어도 에쿠스 지를지 고민했을텐데...에쿠스가 동가격대 차량들보다 가치가 높은데, 항상 현대가 하는 그 실용적인 루트를 따라가는 거 같다. 근데 이 에쿠스를 렉서스나 벤츠하고 비교하면 또 이야기가 다르다. 렉서스나 벤츠 살 돈 있으면 그거 사지 에쿠스 살 이유는 없는거같다. 현대차가 참 기술도 좋고 스타일도 현대적이고 브랜드마케팅도 잘하는데 아직 인지도가 떨어지네...ㅠㅠ

Luckily it won't have the grille but it now has a Hyundai 'H' on the back and a new grille that if you look in a certain direction it looks like a thrown-out Mercedes. Other than that it looks the same like the Korean-Spec with 10 more horses
뒤에는 현대 마크 달려있고 벤츠 짝퉁 그릴도 달려있네... 그거 말곤 10마력 높은 한국용 에쿠스랄 똑같아보임

I do admire Hyundai's attempts at pulling the brand more upscale. But I feel that they're cutting corners.
Take the new Equus. If Hyundai was so keen on becoming the next Lexus, they probably should have been more fastidious in the design.
This car makes me think of a Chinese knock-off Rolls-Royce. The name. VS460. Take the V and replace it with an L-and you get LS460, hmmm, sound familiar?
And that awfully gaudy grill. It comes straight from Mercedes.

Overall, this car looks extremely sloppy. It just doesn't look good. It looks like bits and pieces from different car companies mashed together. It looks absolutely ridiculous.
It looks chintzy and cheap. And I can tell you that I will never take a Hyundai Equus over my Mercedes S-Class.
현대가 럭셔리 마케팅 하는 거 좋아보인다. 근데 아직 좀 모자라다. 진짜 렉서스를 잡고 싶었으면 에쿠스 디자인에 더 신경을 썼었어야 하는데.... 이 차 왠지 중국용 롤스로이스같다. 그리고 VS460은 LS460 베낀 거? 그릴도 역겹고, 완전 벤츠네... 후드 엠블럼도 롤스로이스 꺼고... 이 차 너무 안좋아 보인다. 막 여러 회사 꺼 짬뽕시킨 거 같음. 완전 괴상함. 싸구려같다. 내 S-Class 냅두고 이거 타는 일 절대 없음.

As owner of a Mercedes GL, I can tell you this will be my next car!! I'm not stuck on name brands, I'm all about value and looks and this car has them both in spades. It even has some options that the S-series doesn't have like the executive recliner seat. Why should I overpay for a Mercedes S-series when I can get this with all the bells and whistles for about $30,000 less.
지금 벤츠 GL 타고 있는데, 다음 차는 이거로 정했다. 난 브랜드 따위 상관없고 가치와 모양만 돈다. 이거 심지어 S-Class에 없는 옵션도 있다!! 3만 달러나 더 주고 벤츠 탈 이유는 없다.

There's no doubt that Hyundai is pushing the envelope here with the Equus. But last year we were being told that Genesis was the new flagship. This year a new story. And now the company has three logos - the simple/schlocky "H"; the eagle for the Genesis; and a new, refined eagle for the Equus. Confusing.
If branding is of concern to Hyundai, you'd think they'd spin off a luxury label. Americans LOVE labels and are unafraid to buy them. Just look at the brand graduation from GM to Chevy to Buick to Cadillac. Or from Honda to Acura. Or Toyota to Lexus. We love our low-priced quality products... but we love the option to upgrade to a bigger label.
So... if Hyundai's president is so smart - and I strongly suspect he is - why has the car company not yet launched a luxury label under which to produce and sell highly-sophisticated cars at the designer label price, while continuing the build brand equity in its existing Hyundai brand for the quality-conscious and budget-minded consumer?
With respect to the VW Phaeton: in essence, this car was nothing more than a super version of the Audi A8 with the VW badge. There are many wonderful refinements about the car, but V-Dub did a poor job of outlining the differentiators to the American consumer, which already experessed preference for the A8 anyway.
Seems a lot of concerns might be put to rest if the Hyundai car company had two brands under which to market and sell.
But what do I know? I've only been in corporate brand management for 20 years... and have been a consumer of automobiles for 25 years.

The Equus isn't for everyone apparently. I have been a Lexus owner for many years. At first I really like the Genesis. I was very impressed with the Lexicon system in the car. And being a musician as well it is a must that I have a great sound in my car. But after seeing the Equus. I will definitely purchase that car. I have read enough to be able to make a decision. Now all that is left to do is test drive one. I had already test driven the Genesis. I loved the ride. I'm sure I will also love the ride of the Equus as well
에쿠스는 확실히 모두를 위한 차는 아니다. 나는 수년동안 렉서스를 타왔다. 맨 처음에 제네시스 봤을 때 렉시콘 스피커가 진짜 좋아보였다. 내가 음악을 하는 사람이라 그런지 차 안에도 빵빵하게 나와야 한다. 근데 에쿠스 보고나서, 당장 사야겠다는 생각이 들었다. 난 이미 충분히 알아봤고, 이젠 시승만 해보면 된다. 제네시스는 이미 시승해봤는데 좋았다. 에쿠스도 좋을 거라 믿는다.

Ah...competition...it is a beautiful thing. In 1989 Lexus did to MB what Hyundai is attempting to do the MB and Lexus - produce a comparable car for thousands less. Lexus was successful - we'll see if Hyundai can pull it off.
아...경쟁...은 역시 좋아. 1989년에 렉서스가 벤츠에 한 것처럼 현대도 렉서스와 벤츠를 상대로 몇만달러 싼 차를 내놓은구나... 렉서스는 성공적이었는데 현대는 어떨지 보자.

I totally agree with a comment posted here by "bwestindc". At first the equus looks real good: However, the logo looks ridiculous; what's the deal with Hyundai! why can't they get it right with the logo - I think the company should adopt a standard logo for all its cars. As far as the styling goes, the car's side looks like a buick - interior is nice, but the use of real aluminum is a must if you want to play along with the big boys - also, since this is hyundai's flagship sedan, the engine should pack a few more horses with better torque. If hyundai wants to surpass bmw, lexus and benz, they then should examine learn and do something those competitors have not done, yet. Until then they will be a distant 4th or 5th in the luxury segment. Competition is good for all out there who wants to purchase affordable luxury, but mostly reliability, which lexus dominates. I will most likely purchase the next genesis, once the little nuisances have been resloved (ex: voice controls/navigation/bluetooth).
나는 아까 그 ㅈㄴ 긴 댓글에 동의한다. 처음 보면 에쿠스가 되게 좋아보인다. 근데 일단 로고가 에러다. 걍 현대 로고나 쓰지 이딴 거 왜 만들었는지 모르겠다. 이제 현대도 로고 통일을 했으면 한다. 스타일 측면에서는, 옆면은 완전 뷰익이고, 인테리어는 괜찮지만 알루미늄은 좀 그렇다. 그리고, 기함 답게 더 좋은 성능의 엔진을 올렸어야 한다. 현대가 BMW, 렉서스, 벤츠를 넘고 싶으면 그들이 안한 것을 더 연구해야 한다. 그 전까지는 아마 럭셔리 시장의 4인자, 5인자 정도밖에 안될 것이다. 이런 경쟁 때문에 럭셔리 모델을 싸게 사고 싶은 사람들은 좋겟지만 대부분 렉서스를 믿고 구매할 것이다. 나는 제네시스에 보이스컨트롤, 네비, 블루투스 등이 제대로 고쳐진 후 제네시스를 사고 싶다.

When I went to the car show the Equus IMO stole the show. When I asked the girl she didn't know the price but said it could be 70k. I said for that price it will never sell. But from what I'm told and read at 50-60k it at least 36k less than any S class. In fact most S class I that I have seen in the showroom are over 100k and a lot a around 119k. When it comes out I will have to test drive it and see how it compare to my L460l.
내가 모터쇼에 가서 에쿠스를 봤다. 거기서 레이싱모델한테 얼마냐 물어봤는데 잘 모른다면서 한 7만달러정도 할거라고 했다. 그래서 내가 그 가격으론 절대 못팔거라 했는데, 알고 보니 그게 5~6만달러이고 벤츠보다 약 4만달러 정도 싸네! 사실 내가 본 대부분의 S-Class는 10만달러나 많으면 12만 달러까지 갔는데, 에쿠스 나오면 당장 가서 시승해보고 LS460이랑 비교해 봐야겠다.
